Tonalli—Where Travel Goes Beyond Sightseeing

Traveler Voices

  • “Incredible cultural immersion experience!
Sergio and Lydia were phenomenal guides. Knowledgeable, kind, and passionate. They led us through a meaningful blend of history, language, and hands-on cultural experiences. The highlight was visiting a local ranch, where we made cheese and tortillas and learned about multigenerational life and the real challenges ranchers face during a long drought. I left with a deeper understanding of the region and so much appreciation for the people and culture. Highly recommend if you want more than just a tourist experience…this was truly unforgettable!”

    — Janet

  • “Sergio and Lydia were incredible guides who increased my understanding of Spanish, my understanding of Mexico, and my awareness also of the important cultural concept of communal land ownership and communal access to the ocean. As the daughter of Irish immigrants, I know that once upon a time, in Ireland, land was owned communally. It still is today in Mexico. I found it deeply meaningful to meet a ranching family who live on communally owned land shared with 36 other families, and to learn more about the story of fisherman in the state of Baja California Sur who were almost jilted out of their communal rights to use a beach, which had sustained them for generations and was their patrimony, by Colorado real estate developers and Mexican collaborators… Sergio and Lydia, thank you for the Spanish, thank you for the awakening, thank you for this trip. It has changed me.”

    — Helen

  • "Tonalli Cultural Immersions offers a wonderful experience for anyone interested in traveling with a group of people who genuinely want to learn about the culture and lifestyle of the destination. From visiting a local ranch to tasting fresh seafood, Tonalli puts together a great itinerary. Not to mention, Sergio and Lydia are amazing tour guides. Their hospitality throughout the immersion makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. I wholeheartedly recommend joining them on a cultural immersion like no other!”

    — Alexandra

  • "One aspect of Lydia's intellectual journey that stands out is her focus on the transnational movement of people, beliefs, ideas, traditions, and spiritual practices. Lydia is a gifted individual…”

    — Aida

  • "Sergio changed the way I see Mexican culture. He helped me see beyond the surface and understand the history, traditions and layers. He gave me the confidence to engage in Spanish conversations and improve my skills."
